The first time I heard about ROMWOD, I was dumb founded. I thought to myself “what in the world is that??” It sounds like a weird new electronic fad that I’m too old to understand. However, now I realize that it is a crucial part of being successful as a CrossFit athlete. We ROMWOD at CFW every Thursday to teach stretching techniques you can do at home. So what does ROMWOD mean exactly? The acronym stands for Range of Motion Workout of the Day.
ROMWOD offers stretching routines that can boost your performance by increasing your range of motion, improving position, posture, power and efficiency; optimize your range of motion; and speed up recovery by increasing the release of hyaluronic acid and resetting your central nervous system. Basically, we spend every Thursday doing these guided routines to get our bodies recovered from the previous days and ready for future workouts.
The cool thing about ROMWOD is that it offers hundreds of routines that can be personalized to meet your needs. When you walk into CrossFit Willis on a Thursday, you will see a variety of ROMWOD modifications. Some people may have a wall ball, a mat, or other equipment that helps them do the stretches effectively while focusing on the body parts that they need stretched the most. At first, you may find that ROMWOD can be challenging, and maybe a bit awkward. But after you get past the learning curve, you will soon find yourself doing ROMWOD even when it’s not a Thursday! The stretching is so relieving, making your body feel much more relaxed and flexible.
