This WOD is an annual hero WOD done in countless boxes across the nation in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.
This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it "Body Armor". Now, it is referred to as "Murph" in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.
We had a big group participate this year, which is great seeing as we made some exciting changes. Many athletes chose to start from The Sproba Ranch, one mile away from the gym. We then ran down 1097 to the gym, completed the “meat” of the WOD (300 air squats, 200 push-ups, 100 pull-ups), and then ran the mile back to the Sproba house.
In true Texas fashion, when completed, we quickly stripped off our weight vests and made our way into their pond to cool off. It was a great day remembering and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the rights and liberties we enjoy and practice each and every day. To all who have served, or have a loved ones who are currently or have in the past served, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.
