Fitness in Montgomery County | Fitness vs. Comp Programming at CrossFit Willis

CrossFit Willis takes pride in offering several options to meet everyone’s needs. Whether you are new to CrossFit, a seasoned athlete, or just wanting to get a good workout in, we aim to provide an experience that will meet your vision in terms of fitness. Everyone is different, and we love to see our CrossFit family meet their goals and push themselves! In order to do so, we offer both comp (competition) and fitness options in our CrossFit class. Not sure what that means? Here is a little bit of insight for the difference between comp and fitness:

 

Comp is for those athletes looking to work towards (you got it) being more competitive in terms of approaching CrossFit as a sport. Comp is usually heavier and little more technical. It focuses on building that muscle strength to get you ready to RX at a local competition. Here is an example of a comp WOD that we had just a few days ago:

 

“TAILWIND” – For time (16 minute time cap)

50/35 Calorie Assault Bike

40 Toes to Bar

30 Power Snatches (155/105)

 

 

Fitness is for those athletes who are just looking to get a great workout in and focus mainly on health and wellness. While both options still lift together, (we usually have both a weightlifting portion followed by a metcon every day) fitness has lighter weights, and less technical lifts… But that doesn't mean fitness is easier. Often, cardio wise, fitness is harder than comp. Here is an example of a fitness WOD:

 

“SHIPMATE” – AMRAP (16 minutes)

200m Run

20/14 Calorie Row

2 Rounds of “Cindy” – 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 air squats

The main idea here is that neither is better or worse, but just different. Think about what your goals are, and pick the workouts that will work best for you!
