Willis, TX Premiere Gym | A Guide to CrossFit Lingo

February 1, 2018

2018 is finally here and well underway. We all know what comes along with the New Year: New Year Resolutions! Seeing as it's February now, we congratulate you if you have persevered thus far. Many people incorporate fitness some way or another into their resolutions, and CrossFit is a great way to do so! Not only do you get to work out at the gym, but you will meet a whole community of like-minded people that will support you throughout your journey.

As awesome as CrossFit can be, there are definitely a few learning curves. One of the biggest struggles of starting CrossFit is learning the lingo. We tend to use a lot of acronyms that can be really confusing. When you are the “new person” at the gym, you may feel awkward. And there is nothing more awkward than not understanding the vocabulary that is being spoken. Don’t worry, though, because we have you covered! Here is the full list of acronyms and other terms that you will hear at the gym:

Box - CrossFit Gym

AMRAP - As Many Reps as Possible (everyone will finish at the same time)

Metcon - Metabolic Conditioning

EMOM - Every Minute on the Minute

For Time - A set amount of work to be done as quickly as possible (people will finish at different times)

The CrossFit Open - A worldwide online qualifier. The first step in qualifying for the CrossFit Games

Regionals - The second step in qualifying for the games. Each part of the world is sectioned into separate regions, athletes compete against others from the same region to qualify for a spot at The CrossFit Games.

The CrossFit Games - The equivalent of the Olympics or Superbowl for CrossFitters

Well, there you have it! Have any questions? Interested in joining? Come by anytime or email us at crossfitwillis@yahoo.com for more information! Hope your 2018 is full of fortune, fun, and fitness!
